Her recently released book “Look Great, Live Green” includes information on how to understand the labels on the products we buy. Many products which claim to be “natural” and “organic” are what she calls Vitamin J – junky and contain dangerous chemicals which she believes are potentially poisonous and polluting the planet.

If you have read previous posts you will recognize two of the examples she quotes “Parabens, used as preservatives in many products, are being tested for possible cancer-causing effects, and phthalates, commonly found in fragrance and linked to hormone disruption”.

Equally disturbing is her discovery that “Chemicals that are banned from industrial manufacturing for safety reasons can be used in body care products”. Read more..

Dioxane, a synthetic derivative of coconut and a common skin cream ingredient is a known carcinogenic. The very fragrance that attracts you to a particular antiaging skin cream could be created from ingredients that are either toxic, or worse, carcinogenic.

Parabens of various types are a preservative used in anti aging skin care products to increase shelf life. Studies have shown that they can cause cancer and result in allergic reactions and skin rashes.
