This might seem incredible, but some skin care products contain ingredients that can actually cause harm to your skin with prolonged application.

Mineral oil, also known as paraffin wax, a common ingredient of skin creams, clogs the pores and interferes with the skin?s natural ability to eliminate toxins.

Dioxane, a synthetic derivative of coconut and a common skin cream ingredient is a known carcinogenic. The very fragrance that attracts you to a particular antiaging skin cream could be created from ingredients that are either toxic, or worse, carcinogenic.

Parabens of various types are a preservative used in anti aging skin care products to increase shelf life. Studies have shown that they can cause cancer and result in allergic reactions and skin rashes.

Let’s face it, anti aging skin care becomes more and more of a concern as the years roll by. With age the perfect complexion that we took for granted in our twenties begins to fade and lines and wrinkles begin to appear. This is the time when we rely on an antiaging skin cream to restore our youthful appearance.

With so many skin care products on the market it’s difficult to know where to start. The shops are full of different brands some of which are advertised in magazines and on TV and others are own brand products. But how do you know which antiaging skin cream will work for you? Which brand will produce visible and lasting results?

A good place to start is the list of ingredients on the label attached to the tube or jar. When you know what to look for this will tell you how effective the product is likely to be. The main reason why our skin starts to sag and develop lines is that as we grow older the proteins collagen and elastin begin to break down. So ingredients that promote the growth of these two proteins are what you want to see when choosing an antiaging skin cream.

Three ingredients that you should look out for are Phytessence Wakame, Xtend-TK and Coenzyme Q10. Each of these in different ways stimulate the growth of collagen which improves the skin’s firmness and elasticity. But you should be aware that including collagen in the skin cream is ineffective since collagen cannot be absorbed by the skin.

Not only is it essential to know the ingredients that go into an anti aging skin care product, but it is equally important to make sure that even the good, active ingredients are used in sufficient quantity. Because of the high cost of these substances some manufacturers will include a minute amount just so that it can be shown on the list of ingredients.

Hopefully this brief survey of anti aging skin care products will help you in making a more informed choice when shopping for antiaging skin cream.

If you suffer from dry skin beneath your eyes you may be reassured to learn that this is a fairly common problem that affects many people. Dry skin around the eyes can cause concern because it affects your appearance and can lead to the development of bags under the eyes and other signs of aging. But there are simple steps you can take to solve the problem.

So, what is the cause of this dry skin beneath the eyes and why is it that the skin around our eyes is particularly affected by this dryness? Our bodies have a natural mechanism for keeping our skin moisturised by the secretion of oil through glands in the skin. But the skin around our eyes is particularly tender and does not have as many oil glands. This is the reason that dry skin around the eyes is such a common problem.

As you will probably know the two main causes of damage to your skin are smoking and excessive exposure to the sun. These are two that we can avoid, but the third cause is the natural process of growing older which we cannot escape. As we age the collagen and elastin in our skin begins to break down and this results in the appearance of wrinkles and sagging skin. Collagen and elastin are proteins that help our skin stay supple and firm.

Fortunately there are skin care products that contain ingredients that encourage the production of collagen and so help your skin to retain its youthful appearance. One of these is Phytessence Wakame which is an exotic kelp that is found in Japan. This works by blocking a harmful enzyme in your body. Another ingredient is Xtend-TK which actually stimulates your own collagen to grow again.

Because the area around the eyes has very thin membranes there are special creams and gels to treat dry skin in this area. One ingredient that has proved to be very effective is EyelissTM. It has mainly been a secret of Hollywood stars and other celebrities. It has a dramatic effect in reducing bags under the eyes, and smoothing out wrinkles. And it works amazingly fast.

If there is one thing worse than acne, it has to be oily skin. Millions of individuals are affected by oily skin and the search for the most effective oily skin care products seems as elusive as the Ogopogo.

Our skin normally secretes a small amount of oil and this is beneficial in a number of ways. It helps to moisturize and also protects against many bacteria from infiltrating the skin. The oil is secreted by small glands located underneath each hair follicle. Except for the palms and soles, all skin surfaces possess these oil secreting glands. These glands are most commonly found on the nose, chin and forehead.

However, in some cases the production of oil does become excessive. Oily skin is often obvious. Besides being a cosmetic problem it can also lead one to lose confidence and self esteem. Many individuals who have oily skin have found this problem to be uncomfortable and embarrassing. Why the oils are secreted in excess is not fully understood but is linked to the genetic makeup and the male sex hormone. Too much of the male sex hormone, dihydrotestosterone and a lot of bad luck appear to be the key causes of this disagreeable cosmetic problem.

Because this oil is a normal part of our daily body function, treatment against excessively oily skin is difficult. While there are many oily skincare products, the majority are not effective.

For some people products created for oily skin care have been a great disappointment. Many individuals believe that buying the most expensive product on the market is the answer. This is not true. The basics of treating an oily skin should start at home.

You can significantly reduce the amount of oil on the skin using a common sense approach. Wash your face at least 2-3 times a day and wipe gently. Use a non fragrant soap since too many chemicals in the soap can lead to irritation. Just before bedtime, apply a few drops of an astringent and wipe the face with a cotton ball. You may even use lemon juice to clean the skin. If you do get acne, never squeeze or break the pimples. You can end up with a scar and even spread the acne. Worse, dirt can now get inside the broken skin.

On the other hand excessive washing can lead to dry skin. Do not use alcohol based products because even though effective, the alcohol can remove all the oil from the skin and lead to peeling, dryness and blistering. For some people excessive oily skin is associated with certain foods. So try and avoid foods which are rich in fats. Spicy and hot foods can also aggravate oily skin. Once you have tried these basic oily skin care measures you will definitely see a reduction in the grease.

For those who continue to have a greasy skin, the next step is to use an oily skin care cleansing product. Because there are so many oily skincare products out there, it is important to choose the right one. For the most effective treatment, look for oily skin care creams which contain kaolin, shea butter or allantoin. While these products are slightly more expensive, they are proven to work and will save you a lot more money in the long run.

Let’s face it, none of us likes to admit our age and we all strive to hang on to the way we looked in our early twenties. As a result we are always searching for the best skincare products. There are thousands of cosmetic creams, lotions, potions, ointments and oils all of which have been touted to be the best beauty treatment ever. But in reality the majority of these creams and lotions are simply moisturizers with fragrances. Smelling good does not always equal good skin care.

For those who are seriously interested in taking care of their skin, you need commitment and persistence. Before rushing off to buy the best skincare cream, it is essential that you start some home care measures. Good skin care at home means avoiding too much sun, washing the face gently on a daily basis and applying a decent moisturizer regularly.

It is important to avoid the sun because the invisible UV light can seriously damage your skin and induce the formation of fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots and even cancers. You should always wear protective clothing to cover the arms and a hat to protect the face. Today, there are some fabrics available which can reflect back the UV light. For those who can?t live without the sun, a sunscreen is a must.

Other factors which can help prevent development of premature aging of the skin include giving up smoking. Tobacco is known to accelerate the aging of the skin and increases wrinkle formation. Most people who smoke always look 10 years older than their actual age.

However, for the best skincare you need to use a cosmetic cream. The problem is knowing how to choose the best skincare products from the vast array available in the shops and on the internet. You might think that the most expensive would be the best, but this is by no means the case. Often the price is a reflection of the advertising costs used the promote the product rather than the cost of its ingredients.

And it is the ingredients that you should check before buying creams or lotions. Read the label on the tube or jar to see what is included in the product. As a general rule the best skincare products are made from natural ingredients. This means that products with artificial fragrances are best avoided. You should also steer clear of creams that contain mineral oil, parabens and alcohols.

On the other hand ingredients which have a beneficial effect on your skin include Xtend-TK and Coenzyme Q10 or CoQ10. Both of these substances promote the rejuvenation of your skin and counter the effects of aging.

So if you want to retain that youthful wrinkle free complexion the advice is simple. Avoid excessive exposure to the sun, give up smoking and choose the best skincare products by checking the ingredients on the label.

This anti aging skin care guide gives you the basic information you need when choosing a skincare product. In today?s world people are living longer than ever before but they do not want their appearance to reflect their increasing years.

With movie stars and fashion supermodels flaunting flawless skin as role models, it?s no wonder that women and men of all ages are becoming obsessed with youthful looks. But there is a bewildering array of anti aging skin care treatments on the market many of them promoted by those very same supermodels.

The problem is knowing where to start in your quest for a skin care product that will work for you. Let me be your anti aging skin care guide and give you some hints and tips on the things to look out for.

Check the list of ingredients. Many skin care products include a long list of ingredients on the label, but not all are good for your skin. In particular watch out for:

Mineral oil, also known as liquid paraffin or paraffin wax. This tends to clog the pores of your skin thus preventing its natural ability to eliminate toxins. Prolonged use can encourage the very thing it is supposed to stop.

Dioxane. This substance is often found in skin care products and is readily absorbed by the skin. Unfortunately it is known to be carcinogenic.

Parabens. These are found in many skin care products. They act as a preservative to prolong the shelf life which would be a good thing except for the fact that parabens may cause cancer.

Alcohols. Several different types of alcohol are used in skin care products. Not all are harmful, but some cause dryness and irritation.

Fragrances. Because fragrances are produced from materials that are known to be toxic it is best to avoid products which contain them. Whilst a dab of perfume or some bodyspray are entirely harmless, use of these ingredients over a large area of skin is another matter.

So those are the substances to avoid, but what about the beneficial ingredients that you should look for? Well, here are three: Phytessence Wakame, Xtend-TK and Coenzyme Q10 (or CoQ10).

While all three work in different ways, the net effect is to promote the growth of collagen and elastin which are the proteins that provide firmness and flexibility to your skin. It is the depletion of these proteins that allows the skin to slacken and form lines and wrinkles.

You may find products that list collagen as one of their ingredients, but unfortunately this is no use because applied externally collagen provides no benefit.

I hope that this anti aging skin care guide has given you some pointers to the way you can distinguish between the myriad of creams and lotions in the marketplace. Look beyond the advertising hype and check the ingredients with care before choosing the products for your anti aging skin care treatment.

While the statement in the header is true it does involve some effort on your part and as the years roll on the effort becomes greater. My reason in starting this blog is to explore all aspects of anti aging products covering both supplements and skin care. I will be looking at the different approaches to anti aging and will pay particular attention to manufacturers’ claims for various “magical” ingredients in their products. Ingredients with exotic sounding names are not always what they seem, but then again certain plant extracts can be surprisingly effective. So follow me as I begin my journey of exploration into the world of anti aging.

And, by the way, I do have a personal interest in this subject since I am fast approaching my three score years and ten!
